Foreclosure Clinics – Help for Struggling Homeowners

Facing the possibility of foreclosure can be a stressful and intimidating process.  Since the housing crisis began in 2008, the Center has partnered with community organizations around Connecticut to offer free foreclosure prevention clinics to homeowners at risk of losing their homes.  Free to any Connecticut homeowner, the clinics are led by an attorney from the Center and provide information about the judicial foreclosure and mediation process, guidance on preparing for court, and resources available from state agencies.  Attendees also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with volunteer attorneys to discuss their individual situations.  To date, over 2,000 people have attended the clinics in Hartford, Bridgeport, and Norwalk.

According to Jeff Gentes, the Center’s Managing Attorney for Foreclosure Prevention, “There are still too many homeowners in Connecticut who are behind on their mortgage payments.  We know the vast majority of those who’ve attended our clinics have been able to keep their houses.”

The next foreclosure prevention clinic will be held on February 21st from 6-8:30pm at Norwalk City Hall.  No pre-registration is required.  Click here for more information about the clinics.

Clinics in Fairfield County are jointly sponsored by the Center, the Cities of Bridgeport and Norwalk, and Homes Saved by Faith.
