EDUCATION AND OUTREACH

The Center recognizes education and outreach as key pieces of the fight against housing discrimination. Our education and outreach efforts include:

Training on state and federal fair housing laws for residents, community organizations, housing professionals, and state and local officials to ensure residents understand their rights and that housing professionals and decision-makers understand the fair housing laws.

Publishing educational materials to help people understand their fair housing rights, prevent unnecessary home foreclosures, promote housing mobility, and teach about Connecticut’s history of housing discrimination and segregation.

Facilitating community education projects like Fair Housing Tours.

Organizing with tenant groups, community organizations, at community fairs, and other events to stay engaged with and informed about the fair housing needs of our community.

The Center offers fair housing training to residents, social service and housing agencies, and housing professionals – including, but not limited to, real estate agents, housing managers and maintenance staff, condominium associations, and cooperatives. Center staff is available to come to your team (on-site or virtually) to explain fair housing law, meet with potential victims of discrimination, and demonstrate how our services might help an individual obtain the housing they want. Over the years, the Center has provided training to a wide variety of groups including, but not limited to:

  • Homeless shelter residents and staff
  • Social workers for children and families
  • Social service agencies
  • Domestic violence advocates
  • Independent living advocates
  • Medical personnel who work with people with disabilities
  • Veteran advocates

Trainings can be scheduled in English or Spanish and day and evening times are available. Contact us to schedule your training today!

Be sure to check out our Facebook to stay up to date on trainings and other events that are open to the public!

Please note that although the majority of our trainings are free, a small fee is assessed for housing agencies and other housing professionals.
